Butterscotch Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

¾ cup Shortening {part butter, softened)1 cup Brown Sugar2 Eggs1 tsp. Vanilla2 ½ cup Flour (sifted)1 tsp. Baking Powder·1 tsp. Salt1 Egg White
Directions

Mix shortening, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Blend in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover dough, chill 2 hours.Preheat oven to 400 degrees.Roll dough 1/8" thick on floured surface. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters.Place on ungreased cookie sheet.Brush with beaten egg whit and sprinkle with mixture of white sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg (1/4 cup white sugar, ½ tsp. Cinnamon, 1/8 tsp. Nutmeg).Bake 6-8 minutes or until very light brown.NOTE!! Russell Henderson won 1st place in the Shawnee Youth Category in the ‘94 Baking contest with this recipe!
